This week there was a shooting in New Orleans. There are a lot of shootings in New Orleans - over 40 so far for 2013 actually. But this shoot was meaningful for me, in small world Iowa. I did not know the indivual personally, but I knew his mission. He was a member of AmeriCorps National Civilian Community Corps working at Green Light New Orleans. Joseph Massenburg was only 18 and according to news reports, someone who was dedicated to service. This was the program I did, and his first round project was my first round project. It feels a little close to home. My roommate from my team leader year put it perfectly - "different team, different campus, same family." Tomorrow I'll be wearing my AmeriCorps A in honor of Joseph and his service. https://www.facebook.com/events/236281556510954/ http://www.nola.com/crime/index.ssf/2013/04/18-year-old_americorps_member.html Well now that both the students and I are back, It's onward with the daily updates!
